Doctors
Dr. Douds is a 1979 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and has been treating both large and small animals in the Lorain – Huron County area since 1982. His practice is now limited to small animals. In 1994 he opened Douds Veterinary Hospital in Oberlin, Ohio. Dr. Douds has a special interest in surgery, endoscopy, and ferrets. He resides in Wakeman Township with his wife, Sandy, cat, Buster, and dog, Tibia. Outside activities include church, running, and building maintenance.
Dr. Nicely obtained her veterinary and teaching degrees from The Ohio State University and began working at the practice in 2002. She feels the human-animal bond that occurs between people and their pets is something to be cherished and helps owners make decisions that honor that relationship. She believes that client education is one of the most important aspects of veterinary practice, and also has a special interest in dentistry, gastrointestinal problems, senior wellness and comfort, and staff education. Outside of work she values her time with her husband and two children. Their family includes a dog, Spinner, and two cats, Tut and Cosmo. Relaxation comes in the form of yoga, spinning, woodcarving, scrap booking, and bird watching.
Dr. Miesse, originally from Celina, Ohio, now resides in Elyria with her four cats, Anne, Tyler, Harley, and Libby and numerous tropical fish. She received her veterinary and undergraduate degrees from The Ohio State University and joined the practice in 2002. She especially enjoys feline medicine, cardiac and respiratory cases, general surgery, and client education. Her free time is filled with gardening, scrap booking, movies, and mystery novels.
Dr. Balas graduated from The Ohio State University of Veterinary Medicine in 1994 and has been associated with Douds Veterinary Hospital since 1998. Her special interests include internal medicine, behavior, and pain management. Dr. Balas lives in Brownhelm Township with her husband, daughter, and son. In her spare time she enjoys horseback riding, books, and yoga. The Balas family has 3 cats, 2 dogs, and 2 miniature horses.
